Q. Why do children need outdoor toys?

Q. How can my child benefit from outdoor play?
A. Aside from the obvious value of increasing his or her fitness, playing outside allows your child to explore more of his or her surroundings, in a safe environment. Outdoor play helps develop both fine and gross motor skills like running, climbing, and jumping.
Q. I have more than one child. Do I need more than one outdoor playset?

If you have additional children, or host playdates, consider adding a supplementary set as well. You can also extend the play value of your toys by adding good quality accessories as well.
Q. I have boy and girl twins. Is a play house something they both can enjoy?
A. Children of both genders enjoy pretend play and role playing in a play house setting. You will probably find that both kids use the house, but that they use it in entirely different ways. If your house will host kids of both genders, consider a neutral color scheme, instead of girlish pastels. Don't be surprised if your "house" becomes a "fort" or "castle" when boys are in residence.
Q. My kid just put all the balls from the ball pit in the pool. Is this normal?
A. It is perfectly normal for children to play with outdoor toys in unusual ways. Trial and error is part of learning, and trying toys with pieces they don't "belong" with is perfectly normal. Don't be surprised if your child uses toys in unexpected ways--just play along with them-you will be glad you did! Q. Is my toddler old enough for a T-ball or soccer set?
A. Your child is old enough for a t-ball or soccer set when he or she begins to emulate what the "big kids" do. If your child becomes fascinated with putting objects inside other objects, or begins kicking every ball in sight, you can be sure that a t-ball or soccer set would be a welcome addition to your home. Choose a set that is specifically designed for toddlers, and your little slugger will be hitting home runs or scoring goals as soon as it is set up.
Q. Are there any safety issues I should be aware of?
A. When you are choosing outdoor toys for your child, select quality, age appropriate items, and assemble them with care. If there are very small accessories, you may want to withhold them if your child is under three. Check your outdoor toys from time to time to make sure they are in good shape, and still firmly assembled.
